The standard rod bushing cartridge material for
all Model LH low pressure hydraulic cylinders is made from grade 65-45-12 high
strength ductile iron which provides for a durable wear surface
for most hydraulic cylinder applications.
However, some design
engineers from time to time request the rod cartridge be made from
other materials which are less susceptible to a galling condition
that could occur between the piston rod and the I.D. of the rod
cartridge in various applications. One such material is 660
bearing bronze and another is our “Slip Tuff” coated rod bearing
cartridge.
The cylinder rod bearing cartridges noted in the drawings below may be
manufactured out of different materials to meet the demands of
specific applications. All Model LH low pressure hydraulic
cylinders contain a floating and self aligning rod
bearing cartridge that generally minimizes piston rod
misalignment by reducing side loading that is often found in most
automated manufacturing systems.
Bronze Rod Bearing Cartridge
Some design
engineers from time to time request a bronze material that is less
susceptible to a galling condition that could occur between the
piston rod and the I.D. of the rod cartridge in various
applications. Peninsular uses a 660 bearing bronze material for
these applications when they become present. Note that bronze is a
softer material than ductile iron and when side load is present
one should be aware that bronze will wear much faster than the
ductile iron material.
To order or configure a cylinder with our 660 bearing bronze rod
cartridge material a /F must be specified at the end of the
Peninsular part numbering system. By selecting the “bronze rod
cartridge” in this configurator you will have selected a cylinder
with the rod bushing cartridge made from this bearing bronze
material and a /F will be present in the cylinder part number once
the cylinder is generated for configuration.
"SlipTuff" Coated Rod Bearing
Cartridge
Our “Slip Tuff” coated rod bushing cartridge
provides exceptional wear characteristics combined with a highly lubristic inside diameter of the rod cartridge. This special
coating has been successfully tested and proven throughout the
automobile industry on Peninsular hydraulic and pneumatic
cylinders in applications where severe side loaded conditions were
present. The use of our “Slip Tuff” coating feature will extend
the life of the rod bushing cartridge in
those applications where side loading has caused early cylinder
failure attributable to severe wear exerted upon the I.D. of the
cylinder rod cartridge.
Peninsular’s “Slip Tuff” coated rod bushing cartridge will still
contain the floating and self aligning feature as is present on
all Peninsular cylinders.
By selecting the “Slip Tuff” coated rod cartridge” feature in this configurator, you will have selected a cylinder with a special
coating applied to our standard 65-45-12 high strength ductile
iron rod bushing cartridge.
When the “Slip Tuff” Coated Rod Cartridge feature is selected a /
Z
will appear near the end of the cylinder ordering number after the
cylinder is generated for configuration.
